I looked at artists and products around me that inspired me and led me to my designs. The marbling of coloured clay, the colour palettes, and the shapes of mugs are all things that have stimulated my design and that I want to consider in my work and explore.

Looking at nature and the colours that surround us was something I wanted to incorporate into my work. I wanted to experiment with shades of blues and greens, making a very natural colour pallet. These pictures of the fresh-cut branches stood out to me. The vibrant, bold orange stood out; I wanted to take this into my work. I started to look at more neutral shades of green with a small pop of colour that stood out and created a strong colour pallet. Just little pops of colour, nothing too overpowering.

Looking on Instagram at different mugs' colours, shapes, and sizes, seeing what styles attract most people, and reading their captions inspire me and give me ideas for describing my mugs.
Ceramic Mugs For SaleĀ

These are a range of handmade and mass-produced mugs. I took pictures of mugs that caught my attention in colour, shape and handle types. It was also interesting to see the pricing range. Manufactured mugs were at the lower end of the pricing, from Ā£4-Ā£5 max. These were also all habitat mugs, which might be considered a bit more expensive brand. The price was higher due to more oversized mugs. I found that if the size were larger, the cost would have been more expensive, not due to more intricate detail. Walking around looking in other shops, all handmade mugs were inĀ independent small shops. These mugs ranged in price from Ā£14 to Ā£22. You could tell these mugs were handmade, being a lot more organic in shape and glaze.Ā I found it interesting that as these mugs were significantly more expensive, the display and layout of these mugs were notably more critical. Advertising was a lot more important in selling handmade mugs.Ā
